On the climb up the ice-capped Mt Kilimanjaro, student-engineers will discover its 5 biomes from the base of Kilimanjaro to its peak. To avoid altitude sickness, you must hike slowly on the way down. Using gravity, slope, and friction, participants will build a STEAMtastically slow, animal-filled trek down the mountain. Registration required.

The February book is The Enigma Girls by Candace Fleming. Bletchley Park was a well-kept secret during World War II. The critical work done there of code-cracking Nazi messages could determine a victory or loss against Hitler’s army. Amidst the brilliant cryptographers and absent-minded professors working there, it was 10 teenaged girls who kept Bletchley running. This is their story.
