Our October artist is Lydia Baldassarre. Early experiences as a young child have influenced and shaped Lydia into the artist she has become today. A lifelong interest in art began at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. At age twelve, she attended summer art classes. After class, she was free to roam the galleries. The rooms became a playground filled with famous paintings and sculptures.

Today, art museums from Paris and Italy, Maine to California and Canada, have provided her with inspiration and energy that is carried out in her recent work. Outdoor workshops on Monhegan Island, Maine, and Rockport and Gloucester, Massachusetts, have inspired the natural spontaneity eviden in her abstract collection.

Currently, she continues to explore new ways to apply paint other than using conventional brushes. By manipulating oil pant with a credit card, she is able to achieve texture, sculpture, and depth on canvas. Her love of art that started as a child continues to grow and change as she explores new possibilities with paint.

“Images of Glen Rock” celebrates Glen Rock’s 125th Anniversary. The artists have captured sights around town ranging from the Boro Hall Train Station, to daffodils in the Arboretum, to a red fox playing at Faber Field. Works are in photographs, on canvas and paper. Artists include Jim Aber, Yuliya Abova, John Arehart, Emily Gilman Beezley, Lydia Baldassarre, Karen Delaney, Len Geer, Michele Keller, John F. Kennedy, James Nonas, Mark Oberndorf, Elizabeth Robles, Douglas Salvatoriello, Allen Silber, Pat Smythe, and Joy Yoo.

Elizabeth Robles’ passion for painting and art has always been in her soul even before art school. States Robles, “I am inspired by what I see all around me in this beautiful world while plein air painting, working in my art studio, or working from my photos. There is always something I need to capture in paint, something I need to express, something that calls me to pick up my brushes and paint. The world is forgotten and colors take over. Even on very busy days, when I know I cannot paint for hours, I always schedule at least 30 minutes to paint. For me it’s like breathing, something I must do in my life and what I was meant to do.”

A meet the artist reception is scheduled for Saturday, August 17 from 12:00pm - 1:30pm.

“The Art of Tuesday Night” is a collection of art in many styles created by the adult students of the Glen Rock/Midland Park Community School’s oil painting class. The public is invited to a meet the artists reception a the Library on Saturday, July 27th from 1 - 2pm, and all are welcome.

Olivia McRae, a Glen Rock resident, is a freelance photographer who has always enjoyed framing life’s events through a camera lens. She has a keen interest in nature photography and is excited to bring her Enchanted Galapagos Exhibit to the Glen Rock Public Library.

Diane Nafash’s “Sylvan Moments,” a collection of experimental photography, hand pulled lithography and contemporary printmaking with watercolor brings a sense of enlightenment, rewarding those who take a careful look at her imagery. Along with feelings of peace and joy, there is a sense of “lifting up” and “reaching out” that directly engages the viewer.
