The Persistence of the Dutch Language in New York and New Jersey
March 28, 7:00, ET
This talk will explore the persistence of the Dutch language in New York and Northern New Jersey. Although England conquered New Netherland in 1664, the inhabitants of the colony and their descendants continued to speak Dutch for generations. Learn about how and why descendants of the Dutch colonists latched on to the language for nearly 300 years.
